April's Glossy Box Review

This month’s box seems to have mixed reviews, some people have loved it and some have been really disappointed. Personally in my opinion I think that Glossy box is doing a great job with what they are giving us. There are items that you’re going to love and some not so much but overall it’s a really good price. £10 a month, what more could you ask for? For me the whole point of getting a Glossy Box is to introduce me to brands I may have not come across before and that’s something that they haven’t failed on. There are products which I will use but not necessarily purchase but I am still more than happy to use them and I am sure you feel the same. If you really don’t want to use it put it away for stocking fillers for Christmas or birthdays presents. I love the day I receive my Glossy Box, it makes me feel special and worthy and that extra bit empowered as a woman.

Do you remember doing those Christmas boxes for charity at school; when you create a box for a girl or boys who never have any gifts? We never knew whether they would like it or not but we would have hope that they would appreciate it. I think that’s what we should be doing, we should appreciate what we get because at the end of the day we don’t know what’s coming and that’s the whole point; they don’t know us personally. Glossy Box puts in the effort to try and make us happy every month. I am not at all being sponsored or given free boxes at all, I pay for the subscription myself so this is my honest opinion; but hey having gratitude for things is important to me and something I try to remind myself of daily. We all have our own opinion of what is important to us or our loves and dislikes and I respect every single one of you. I just hope that to those who may feel a little disappointed that you can also see the great things you got too. Stay sweet. xoxo

My box this month box included:

  • Studio 10 Brow lift perfecting line Full size £22

  • Leighton Denny Miracle Mist Full size £12

  • NEXT Makeup Me Beauty eyeshadow quad Full size £7.50

  • The Body Shop ‘Oils of Life’ Sample Full size is £28

  • Stylondon Temporary Henna Tattoos £5.00

The Brow Pencil: I truly loved this soft and creamy eyebrow and highlight pencil. So many people complained saying that it was too hard or didn’t match their hair but I truly think its just because they didn’t know HOW to use the product. First of all the colour will match. People with lighter hair should either stay the same or go one shade darker and people with darker hair should go one shade lighter, so it is a win, win. However the highlight part may not suit your skin tone which I think is a fair point to bring up. Top Tip: Warm up the pencil on the back of your hand first to make the texture creamy and take away the sharpness of it. I promise you will realise that it is smoother than you think. Use feathery strokes in the direction of the hair. If light hair use it softer, if darker hair you can put more pressure. Then switch it round and neaten up with the brow bone highlight. Remember highlighter doesn’t have to be glittery. Would I buy it? I am a makeup artist so I am willing to spend a lot more on makeup for my clients and kit and some money goes to a charity to support women with cancer. Finally a makeup brand with a purpose and who gives back! I am really impressed with it but my only concern is that I am most likely going to run out of the brow colour before the brow bone colour. Either way, you get it in your box for free! What more could you ask for?

Miracle Mist: I decided to paint my toe nails to see if it worked and what difference it makes to other nail mists I have used before. I think it smells nice and Its packaging is classy and chic. Would I buy it? Honestly I wouldn’t buy it simply because I feel it does exactly what every other nail mist I have used before so I don’t think it’s worth £12. Truthfully, I am not really into nails so maybe others may find this useful. I will finish using it, I just wouldn’t purchase it. I have nothing bad to say about this product It just doesn’t ‘WOW’ me.

NEXT Eyeshadow Quad: I love the colours especially for the trends on the catwalk this season, smokey eyes and a pop of blue everywhere. I like the packaging and how you have all the shades in there to take it from day to night. When I first swatched this on my hands the pigmentation didn’t show up every well so my Top Tip would be to add some water to your brush as you get more of an intense colour pay off. Would I buy it? Truthfully, no but that is simply because I am used to using higher end products with better colour pay off but for the price it’s not bad at all. The colours WOW me just not the pigmentation. I think I am most likely to use this on myself for a subtle definition. I would recommend this to people who want to slowly start off with some eyeshadows because I know a lot of people who don’t wear it at all. It’s way affordable and you get four gorgeous different shades.

The Body Shop 'Oils of Life': I love this product! It has that fresh smell to it and I noticed that any dry areas were sorted. I think this product would benefit people with dry skin and mature skin. It also gave my skin a healthy glow so I decided to use MAC Face and Body foundation. The two work really well together. I think this product is best to use on its own at night. Would I buy it? As this is a sample I am trying not to waste the product too much plus it is really hard to give a full review on skincare as you usually need to use it for 3-4 weeks before you see a huge difference. I think I would buy this as a gift for my mother as I know she would benefit from it but as my skin is blemished and oily I tend to stay away from oils. I need to use it more to see if it would be worth the £28.

Henna Tattoos: So many people have complained about these and wondering why they have received them as they feel they are too grown up to use them. I understand their point of view completely but I think these are really great for people who live in America and are going to Coachella this year. Unfortunately we don’t often get that summer weather. I think for festivals they are a great idea but would I use it? On the Bright side they are lovely chic patterns not that crap you get in a kinder egg. Would I buy it? I am not really into Henna Tattoos, I think they’re pretty but I wouldn’t wear them. Maybe if I was an LA girl. However, I will keep them and use them in my kit. I use a lot of gold leaf and materials on shoots so I’m sure I’ll find some use for it. I understand why people wish they didn’t get it but I just think Glossy Box was trying to stick with the theme of April and its festivals; which I honestly like.

Overall, I have loved this box; I think it has a diverse range of products and many brands I have never used before. I also especially love the brow product and how it gives back to charity. Having a purpose and giving back behind a brand is very rare. I respect that very much.
